WHO ARE MAR VISTA OWLS? The Mar Vista OWLS organization is a new non-profit group founded by neighborhood volunteers whose mission is to help older adults in our community continue living at home with dignity, independence, and an enhanced quality of life.


HOW DOES THE PROGRAM WORK? Our vision is to build and maintain a community that supports its older residents by providing affordable, membership based, and consumer driven services. As a resident who is 50 and over you will be able to:
• Have one phone number to call for all your needs
• Have vetted and discounted vendors
• Have volunteer opportunities
• Have increased social, cultural, educational, and intergenerational opportunities with your neighbors

WHO CAN JOIN MAR VISTA OWLS? Membership will be available to Mar Vista residents who are at least 50 years old.

HOW MUCH DOES IT COST? The membership fee still needs to be determined, but with volunteer support and fundraising efforts, the fee will be as low as possible.

WHY DO WE NEED TO BE A MAR VISTA OWL? To make your life easier, and to be better connected with the other members of your community.

ARE THERE OTHER SUCCESSFUL PROGRAMS IN THE U.S.? Yes, there are about 46 successful programs throughout the United States. Beacon Hill Village in Boston, MA (beaconhillvillage.org) began this innovative program in 2001. Their web-site will lead you to other “Aging in Place” programs

WHEN CAN I JOIN? We plan to “open our doors” sometime next year, but for now we are hoping to generate interest and volunteer support.
